The campsite, which is part of the Playa Joyel holiday park, is large and enjoys direct access to the sea, which is full of life in high season. It is ideally situated for campers on one of the loveliest beaches Northern Spain has to offer, and close to some gorgeous countryside and old cities. Teenagers will find plenty to do here. Campsite Playa Joyel is near Noja, which is spectacularly located on an outstanding stretch of sandy beach along the Costa Verde ('Green Coast') and is surrounded by verdant countryside towered over by mountains.The atmosphere here is relaxed and altogether Spanish. Nobody can fail to have their spirits lifted by the animals at the petting zoo here. Teenagers at this campsite love the games hall and the underground disco held every night in summer. The swimming pools on site are opened to holidaymakers at the beginning of June. All this adds up to excellent facilities for a campsite, and one that pulsates in summer! But those seeking peace and quiet can still enjoy a visit here before and after the main summer season and will appreciate the lovely coast and the amazing countryside inland. Don't forget to pack your walking shoes! For campers keen to discover the world beyond their campsite, Playa Joyel won't disappoint. The beach, and Noja town, are quite packed when the sun comes out, and the sea at this point is particularly amenable to swimming - it's relatively sheltered from breaking waves, and there is good lifeguard cover in high season. If you're keen to delve into some local culture, head to Bilbao with its Guggenheim Museum in the old town. Santoña and Castro Urdiales, local fishing villages, have been made into open-air museums to preserve their harbours just as quaint as they were in the old days. Santillana, a town of medieval streets boasting twelfth-century cloisters, is absolutely worth visiting. If you're wanting something really special, visit Cabárceno, where there's a zoo in a league of its own. Another full day trip that could be on your list while camping at Playa Joyel is a jaunt through the pretty mountain landscape of Picos de Europa, where you can take the cable car up to 1,847 metres (6,150 ft.) to savour the breathtaking view over the Pyrenees. 20 km from the campsite is Santander, a bustling ferry port with some outstanding beaches and plenty of nice shops. It plays host to the Santander Music Festival in August. Whatever month you're in the area, it's worth visiting this city.
