2. Do you need vaccinations if you're going to Brazil?

Inoculations are not required when travelling to Brazil. However, there are a number of vaccinations that are recommended. We would therefore like to inform you that it is wise to take these vaccinations before you travel. It is recommended to be vaccinated against DTP, yellow fever, hepatitis A and rabies. Furthermore, the vaccination for hepatitis B is optional. You never know in which situations you will end up during your trip through Brazil and then you better take it safe and sound.

Aware that different laws and regulations apply in a country like Brazil. There is a lot of crime, especially in the big cities. Crime is highest during the tourist season (December to March). Not only in big cities but also on beaches you have to pay attention. Some tips from the ministry of Foreign Affairs:

  • Don't ever go alone on the street.
  • Don't visit slums (favella's). Not even with an organized tour.
  • Be alert on the street, in public transport and especially in the dark.
  • Don't wear eye-catching jewelry (watch's), expensive bags, earrings etc.
  • Limit mobile phone use in public as much as possible.
  • Never just follow the GPS route, it can lead you through remote dangerous neighborhoods.
  • Take as little money and other valuables with you as possible. Always leave your passport and other belongings in the hotel.
  • Please take out a good travel insurance.

Always look at the travel advice before booking a trip. Because of the unrest in the big cities caused by drug gangs and crime, there may be a negative travel advice. It is wonderful to follow the process from grapes to wine. But also the beautiful art that can be found there, is more than worth visiting. The route through this area will take your breath away.

The cable car of Unipraias Camboriu park is located in the town of Camboriú and is a real must. A great excursion for the whole family. From the top you have a beautiful 360 degree view over the beach and the jungle. So you can enjoy different aspects of nature in Brazil. The ride up and down are almost as breathtaking as the view on top.

5.17. Santo Antônio de Lisboa

In Dutch the Botanic garden of Curitiba. As the name suggests, the garden is located in the city of Curitiba. This is the largest city in the south of Brazil. The gardens were opened in 1991 and have a French style. The botanical gardens have waterfalls, lakes and fountains. In addition, in the Jardim Botanico de Curitiba you will find various greenhouses with native and exotic plant species. The total park is 24,000 square meters. The park also houses part of the campus of the Federal University of Paraná. The park attracts many thousands of visitors every year.

The Pão de Açúcar is the Portuguese name of the Sugarloaf Mountain. The mountain is 396 meters high and is located on a peninsula in the Bay of Guanabara near Urca. You can reach the top of the Sugarloaf Mountain by means of a 1400 meter long cable car. This cable car was built in 1912 and is one of the most famous tourist attractions of Rio de Janeiro. At last we have the national park Aparados da Serra as an unmissable hot spot in Brazil. This special park is located in the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina. It was established as one of the first national parks in 1959. The park covers 10,250 hectares and protects the Itaimbenzinho canyon. In the park you can find 143 bird species, 48 different mammals and 39 amphibian species. You can see, among others, the red-glasses zone, the maned wolf and the cougar. Only 1500 visitors per day are allowed in the park. So you have to make sure that you buy a ticket in time so you can take a look in this great natural park.
