2. Characteristics of the village Winterberg

As the name suggests, the ski area Skiliftkarussell Winterberg is located near the German town of Winterberg. A small part of the village lies directly on the slopes. From other parts of Winterberg you can take the ski bus or car. Winterberg is a cozy ski resort with traditional buildings. In the car-free center you will find a number of busy streets with various shops, restaurants and pubs. You can spend the night in a hotel, apartment, guesthouse or holiday home in Winterberg. The surroundings are beautiful in the hills of the Hochsauerland.

The village is situated at an altitude of 668 meters and Winterberg is regularly equipped with a snow blanket during the winter sports season.

3. Skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing in the skiing region of Winterberg

The skiing area of Winterberg is located in the low mountain range of Sauerland. There are seven sub-areas: Poppenberg, Astenstrasse, Bremberg, Sürenberg, Herrloh, Kappe, Kahler and Asten. Thanks to dozens of modern elevators you can easily make a tour along these seven subareas. Because of the low altitude you can ski almost everywhere between the trees. And because of the slight difference in altitude, downhill runs are not too long. In Winterberg you will find a number of slopes with artificial lighting for evening skiing.

The Winterberg ski area is ideal for beginners. You don't have to drive far to get to the village. So you can easily spend a day or long weekend getting acquainted with winter sports in Winterberg. In Winterberg you will find many blue slopes and a large practice meadow at the Herrloh Kopf. Despite the many easy slopes, there are hardly any flat stretches. The Quickjet descent is a beautiful red slope for all beginners who want just a little more challenge. And the blue descent from the Kappe is also recommended. This Waldschneise slope meanders beautifully between the trees.

For experienced skiers, the ski area does not have much to offer. The red pistes are easy and black pistes are almost non-existent. On the Kappe you will find some nice and challenging pistes, such as the spicy black Slalomhang. Enough for a day of snow fun. There is a great fun park in Winterberg for freestylers. Off-piste opportunities are hardly there. For that, the ski area is too small and the difference in altitude is too small.

Winterberg lends itself very well to a toboggan run, a beautiful winter hike or cross-country skiing route. You will also find the ski area an official bobsleigh track and various jumps. Dutch bobsleighers and ski jumpers regularly come here to train. Definitely worth a look if you happen to be in Winterberg at the same time.

4. Winterberg: a very child-friendly ski area close to the Netherlands

Winterberg is an excellent destination for winter sports with children. A good choice for a day or weekend of snow fun. The ski area is just a few hours drive from the Netherlands. Because of the low location it is never very cold or bleak. On the Herrloh you will find a huge children's land with various courses and practice slopes for the little ones. There is even an Indian tent and magic carpet. Also at the chairlift Rauher Busch is a beautiful children's land with practice slopes. Winterberg is easily accessible by car. As far as Meschede-Bestwig you drive on the highway. From there you continue your journey on a good motorway until Winterberg.
