From the holiday home, you walk straight into the centre where you have a wide choice of restaurants, cafés, terraces and nice local shops, a theatre and a cinema.The region is characterised by polder landscape, beaches and woodland. You can cycle from village to village. Each village has its own charm and atmosphere. Because the inland is water-rich, there are many small waters and creeks, and a canoe trip allows you to explore the landscape in a completely different way. The municipality of schagen has no less than 14 km of coast. The beautiful dunes and wide sandy beaches make this a popular tourist region for good reason. Callantsoog is probably the best known. If you are looking for more peace and quiet, go to Petten beach.Culture lovers should definitely visit Alkmaar's historic city centre. This town is famous for its cheese market. You can see how cheese is sold here every Friday morning and also on Tuesday evenings in the holiday period. They make it into a show which is fun for young and old.Plenty to do for everyoneDe Swaan Playpark is great for the children. This play park is located almost next to the campsite and is only a couple of hundred metres' walk. It has no fewer than five playgrounds and a real inflatable water pillow. If you want something else which is fun to do, visit the interesting Museum BroekerVeiling (Auction House Museum) in Broek op Langedijk. You can get there by bike within half an hour. Of course you can always have a day on the beach or go shopping at Egmond aan Zee. It's a bit too far to cycle but you can drive there in fifteen minutes. However, Heerhugowaard is within cycling distance and the half hour bike ride is well worth the effort. The lovely harbour town of Hoorn is also a nice place to visit. To get there will take you just over half an hour in the car.

Apart from endless sunbathing and swimming, you can take lovely walks on the beach here but also in the dunes you can find beautiful routes. Den Helder, only 6 km away, is known for its naval base and the Naval Museum is certainly interesting to visit. While you're there, take a look at the Fort Kijkduin. The old fort now houses a museum and sea aquarium. The boat to Texel also departs from Den Helder. Climb the lighthouse, eat kibbles in one of the beach bars, cycle through the dune landscape or visit the seal sanctuary Ecomare. For those who want to taste and buy Dutch cheese, be sure to visit Alkmaar.
