As a beginner and advanced skier or snowboarder, the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski area is excellent. And the area also offers many opportunities for winter hiking, cross-country skiing, ice climbing and tobogganing.
The Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski area is one of the largest ski areas in Austria. Two different ski passes are possible in the area. The ski pass for Kitzbühel-Kirchberg and the Superskipass. With the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski pass you have access to all slopes within the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski area.
Are you gonna ski for more than a week? Then you can also opt for the Superski pass which gives access to no less than 2396 kilometres of pistes. Of course, the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski area is covered by the Superski Pass, but also 22 other ski areas in Austria. For example, you can take the car or ski bus to SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental or Schmitten-Zell am See. Virtually all ski buses between the ski areas take you free of charge on presentation of the Superskipass.

The most famous villages within the ski area are Kitzbühel and Kirchberg. Kirchberg is centrally located in the ski area. In the village you will find two gondolas that take you to the slopes: the Fleckalmbahn and the Maierlbahn. There is also a beautiful valley run. The village has grown considerably in recent years. Yet the center is still authentic and very cozy. In Kirchberg many events are organized, such as markets and horse races in the snow. In the village you will also find various sauna's and solaria.
Other villages in this ski area in Austria are Hollersbach, Jochberg, Aschau bei Kirchberg, Aurach, Reith bei Kitzbühel and Pass Thurn. Each village has its own characteristics. Hollersbach, for example, is very cheap. And Aschau bei Kirchberg is very atmospheric and an oasis of peace. You will also find a winter campsite here. The table below shows the characteristics of each village. From the villages without lift connection you travel by car or ski bus generally within 5 to 15 minutes to a lift.

The Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski area is suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers. You won't find very high mountains in the area. Nevertheless, the variety of pistes is excellent. In the area are many easy blue slopes to find. For advanced skiers there is plenty to do on the black and red slopes. The famous Streif is highly recommended for experts. World Cup competitions are held every year on this race track.

The ski area Kitzbühel-Kirchberg is quite large and extensive. You can therefore make great trips, for example from Kirchberg to Hollersbach. The off-piste possibilities are also good. Especially on the Kitzbüheler Horn it is after heavy snowfall enjoy the deep snow. Freeriding is also excellent in the ski area. You will find a number of flat stretches in the ski area. Don't you want to walk with your snowboard? Or mess around with your skis? Then try to avoid the connecting paths in the corners of the skiing area. Especially at Pass Thurn a number of paths are quite flat. You can usually reach the corners with other lifts and pistes.
In winter you can not only enjoy excellent skiing and snowboarding at Kitzbühel-Kirchberg. There are also plenty of opportunities for cross-country skiing. Or take a nice winter walk.
In the national nature park Hohe Tauern near Hollersbach you will find beautiful hiking trails. In Aschau im Kirchberg you can walk to a large waterfall. Pass Thurn is also known for its excellent opportunities for winter walks. You can go tobogganing on the Gaisberg during the day and in the evening. Here you can also ski in the evening. There is also a toboggan run on the Kechalm near Aschau bei Kirchberg. Want to go for a nice swim? That is also possible. In many villages there is a swimming pool.
Tip with children: go for a change to the Tyrol

Kitzbühel-Kirchberg is an excellent ski area for children. There are a number of beautiful blue slopes for children. At each of the lifts in Kirchberg you will find a nice children's area. At the Hausleiten drag lift in Jochberg you will find a very nice kidserland with an easy blue practice slope. The village Reith bei Kitzbühel is also very child friendly with a nice practice meadow and some easy drag lifts. Pass Thurn also has a childrens land with practice area. It is very quiet here.
In the valley near Kitzbühel there are two children's countries. Here, however, the walking distances are often a bit long. Not ideal for small legs. Aschau bei Kirchberg has a number of short practice lifts to blue slopes. Children can practice quietly here, although there is no childrens country.
The ski area is relatively low and therefore not very snow sure. Fortunately, the snow cannons ensure that a large part of the slopes is always white during the winter sports season. During a normal winter there is almost always enough real snow in January and February. Do you opt for accommodation in Pass Thurn? Then the snow is much more secure due to the high altitude at almost 1300 meters. Even in snow poor winters there is usually snow in the village.
From mid-December to mid-March you can actually always ski in the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski area. Especially on the higher slopes. January and February are the snowiest months.
Kirchberg is one of the après-ski capitals of the Alps. During the day and into the late hours, you can enjoy a friendly atmosphere in various pubs and clubs. For example, the Eisbar is a popular après-ski tent. Do you like a hopping crowd, sing-alongs, lots of drinks and performances by Dutch-speaking artists? And to finish off with a frikandel at a Dutch snack bar? Then Kirchberg is the place to be!

Kitzbühel stands for luxury and glamour. In Kitzbühel the après-ski is a bit more on level than in Kirchberg. In the village you will find cozy bars and various clubs. The Londoner is for example a popular après-ski club in Kitzbühel. The villages Hollersbach, Jochberg, Aschau bei Kirchberg, Aurach, Reith bei Kitzbühel and Pass Thurn have no après-ski possibilities. Fine if you like peace and quiet.
Do you want to learn better skiing or snowboarding? Maybe you're going on winter sports for the first time or you haven't mastered the technique yet? In the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski area you will find several ski schools where you can book lessons. The ski schools offer group lessons and private lessons for children and adults. Prices vary per ski school and per village. For a group course you can expect to pay between 150 and 200 euros for 4 days of lessons of 4 hours. This rate applies to both children and adults. Private lessons are a lot more expensive (>200 euro for 4 lessons). Given the popularity of the ski area, it may be wise to arrange lessons in advance.
In the ski area Kitzbühel - Kirchberg you will find many cosy mountain huts and larger slope restaurants. You can choose from a variety of different dishes. A well stocked soup with bread for example. A luxury salad, hamburger or a large Viennese schnitzel with chips perhaps? Got cold from skiing or snowboarding? Warm up with a good meal by the stove of the SchiAlm. Or enjoy the warm sun on the terrace of the Bruggeralm.
In the villages of the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg ski area you will find various hotels, chalets, apartments and guesthouses. With every budget you can visit the area. From super cheap winter camping in Aschau bei Kirchberg to enjoying luxury in a chic hotel in Kitzbühel. Of all the villages, Kitzbühel is the most expensive. The village is not for nothing known for its luxury and glamour. It is easy to spend money in the luxury accommodations, restaurants and shops. Kirchberg, Jochberg and Pass Thurn are a lot cheaper. The prices here are fine and are around the average for Austrian terms.
Aurach, Aschau bei Kirchberg, Hollersbach and Reith bei Kitzbühel are the cheapest. For bargain prices you can already find excellent accommodation here. This is because there are no lift connections and you are therefore longer on the slopes. Also, the villages are very quiet and there is little to do. In general, the prices for the ski pass, accommodation and food and drink in Kitzbühel-Kirchberg are fine. Due to the popularity of the ski area you can often book a cheap winter sports holiday with various travel agencies.
The ski area is very popular and can be very busy. Especially in the holidays and weekends.
The ski area Kitzbühel-Kirchberg is located just across the German border and is easily accessible by car. Both via Sankt Johann and via Hopfgarten. On changeover days it can be busy from Kufstein. Pass Thurn and Hollersbach are the furthest away from all villages. The pass can be busy and slippery. In case of heavy snowfalls you will sometimes be delayed. It can snow a lot in Austria. Therefore, make sure you have winter tires under the car. In Germany and Austria, winter tyres are even mandatory in winter conditions. It is also wise to bring snow chains.

Do you prefer to take the train or plane on winter sports to the ski resort Kitzbühel-Kirchberg? You can travel by train to Kitzbühel or Kirchberg. If you opt for the night train, you can get some sleep along the way. You can fly to Innsbruck, for example. In an hour you can get to the ski area by taxi, train or rental car.
