The Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area is one of the most child-friendly ski areas in Austria. Here you will find several nice children's countries and beautiful practice slopes. 2. Ski area Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis: ski pass possibilities

The Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area is one of the largest and most popular ski areas in Austria. With the normal ski pass you have access to all 198 piste kilometres of the ski area Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. In the low season you get a discount and special family packages are possible. Senior citizens can also ski or snowboard at a reduced rate. For children up to about 5 years the ski pass is free.

In addition, you can also choose a Tiroler Oberland ski pass. With this ski pass you can of course go to the ski area Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. It is also possible to visit other ski areas in the area. The other ski areas covered by this ski pass are: Skiparadies Reschenpass, Fendels, Kaunertaler Glacier and Venet. The Tyrolean Oberland ski pass is a good choice if you want to see more of the surroundings. The Kaunertaler Glacier is highly recommended. Here you can still excellent skiing until May.

3. Serfaus, Ladis, Fiss and the other villages in the ski area

The most famous villages within the ski area are Serfaus, Ladis and Fiss. Serfaus is an authentic village centrally located in the ski area. There are several gondolas from the village on the slopes. The village is car-free and that enhances the atmosphere. A special metroline or the leg cart brings you to the gondolas. A red or blue descent brings you back down.

More often the village has several traditional buildings. Because of the high altitude there is often snow in Serfaus in winter. After skiing or snowboarding you can enjoy cozy après-ski. In short, a very attractive village during the winter months. Fiss is also centrally located in the ski area. This village is just like Serfaus authentic and very attractive. Fiss is not car-free, but it is certainly not crowded. You will find several gondolas that will take you to the top. Because of the difference in height you often have to walk a bit to the lift. There are several blue and red descents that end in Fiss.

Penke Fiss is known for its cozy après-ski. The village is just as high as Serfaus and is therefore in the winter months regularly equipped with a beautiful white blanket.

Ladis is a little more on the edge of the ski area. It is a lot quieter here than in Serfaus and Fiss. Ladis is known for its traditional buildings and authentic atmosphere. Especially after heavy snowfall, the village is a beautiful picture. The most characteristic building is the large castle: Burcht Laudegg. The gondola from the centre of Ladis brings you to Fiss. From there you can take various gondolas into the ski area. From Fiss there is a blue valley run to Ladis. From the Schönjochl you can return via a red valley run. Ladis is a small village, but has several nice restaurants. Also après-ski can be fine.

The other villages in the ski area are Ried im Oberinntal and Prutz. Small, quiet, cosy and a lot cheaper than Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis. From Ried you can go to the ski area of Fendels with 11 kilometers of slopes. However, to get to the ski area Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis you have to drive up the mountain to Ladis. Prutz is located in the valley and has no lift connection.

4. Winter sports in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area

The ski area of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is ideal for beginners. Here you will find several well-prepared blue slopes. Especially at Komperdell, the Möseralm and Ladis is a good place to be as a beginner. The Frommesabfahrt in Fiss, for example, is very beautiful. This red valley slope is over 10 kilometers long and nice and wide. With good snow conditions fine to do for beginners. The blue Arrez-Non-Stop piste from Pezid is also highly recommended.

Also for advanced skiers, the ski area has plenty to offer. Around Lazid de Masnerkopf and the Zwölferbahn, for example, you will find various challenging red and black pistes. The black Pezidabfahrt is the steepest slope of the skiing area. The variety of pistes in the area is excellent. There are also hardly any flat stretches to be found. No messing about on skis or walking with your snowboard. The area is quite compact. Because of this, the possibilities for long trips are limited.

There are several unprepared ski routes for an off-piste experience. Especially in the Masner area. You can also enjoy the powder snow next to the slopes. For the professional freerider, the area does not have much to offer. In the ski area you can not only ski and snowboard. Take a ride in the Fisser Flieger or the Serfauser Sauser for example. You will also find various hiking trails and cross-country skiing trails in the area. At Fiss and Serfaus you can ski in the dark on a floodlit slope. And tobogganing is possible at various places.

5. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis: very child friendly

The ski area Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is one of the most child-friendly winter sports areas in Austria. Think of various children's hotels, beautiful and large children's countries and ski schools that are completely focused on children. The ski area is therefore a popular family destination in winter. The Kindererlanden can be found on the Komperdell near Serfaus and at the middle station of the Sonnenbahn between Fiss and Ladis. There are several beautiful practice slopes. The location of the kindererlanden is also very favorable, so the practice slopes are regularly in the sun.

Ried im Oberinntal is connected to the ski area of Fendels. Here you will find a number of short slopes for children. Prutz does not have its own ski area. To get to the children's countries of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis you have to drive a bit from these villages. Older children with some experience can explore this ski area on their own. The area is quite compact and the subareas are well connected. Please note that the area has many red slopes. For children with less experience, guidance is wise.

6. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis: snow certainty

Snow security in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area is excellent. Large parts of the ski area are quite high and there is regular snowfall. Snow cannons are used when there is no snowfall. The snow conditions are optimal in January and February. Between mid-December and mid-March, the whole ski area is very well equipped. Among others in the Masner area near Serfaus and on the Nordseite near Fiss, the snow conditions are very good throughout the winter sports season. Here you can also in April still great skiing.

The high altitude villages of Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis are regularly white during the winter months. Although the sunny location can make the snow disappear quickly.

7. Après-ski in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is not directly known for its après-ski possibilities. It is a lot less exuberant as in for example Kirchberg or Gerlos. Still, you can have a great party in the ski area. Especially in the afternoon. The evenings are quite quiet. A famous après-ski bar in Serfaus is the Patschi. In Fiss you can go to the Hexenalm for après-ski.

Ladis is a lot calmer. You can drink a beer here, but it's not really loose. In Ried im Oberinntal and Prutz you really come for rest. Après-ski possibilities are not available here. You can always take a ride to Serfaus or Fiss.

8. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis: ski schools

Skischool Serfaus and Skischool Fiss-Ladis. Group lessons (children and adults) are between 200 and 250 euro for 4 days of lessons of 4 hours. A private lesson will cost you between 250 and 300 euro for 4 hours. You can often book ski or snowboard lessons in advance. This way you know for sure that you have a place. Especially for children it is advisable to book the lessons online before departure.

9. Delicious food

In the ski area Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis you will find several authentic mountain huts and modern ski restaurants. The Frommesalp at Fiss, for example, is highly recommended. Just like the Weiberkessl in Ladis. You can eat everything in the restaurants along the slopes. Pizzas, sandwiches, salads, soup, fries with sausage, Kaiserschmarren and much more. The prices for a lunch on the slopes are average for Austrian standards. For about 5 euros you can order a filled soup with bread. Can it be a bit more? A wiener schnitzel with chips will cost you about 13 euros. Extensive meat fondues? Then count on about 25 euros for a meal.

10. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis: price level and crowds

Winter sports in the ski area Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is quite expensive. For accommodation, the ski pass and food you will lose more than in most other winter sports areas in Austria. You do have a large and varied ski area at your disposal. With modern lifts and a large snow guarantee. Serfaus is one of the most expensive villages. Serfaus is a great place to stay if you want to stay in a luxury four or five star hotel. You are generally close to the lift and are equipped with all the luxury. There are cheaper accommodations in Serfaus. However, you have to search carefully and book early.

Fiss is slightly less expensive than Serfaus, but still pricey. You will find several luxury hotels, but also cheaper apartments and guesthouses. Ladis is another cheaper than Serfaus and Fiss. The village is a lot quieter. You have several accommodations to choose from. From luxury star hotels to cheap guesthouses.

Penke Ried im Oberinntal and Prutz are much cheaper than Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis. You can easily save money by booking accommodation in one of these villages. You do miss a direct elevator connection. And there are also no après-ski possibilities.

The lifts in the ski area have a large capacity. The area is also very large. Nevertheless, it can be quite busy at the lifts from the village and on the slopes near the villages. Especially in the holidays. If advanced you can easily go further into the ski area to find more peace and quiet.

11. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis: access to the ski area

You can reach the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area via the Fernpass and the Landecker tunnel. Ried im Oberinntal and Prutz are on the main road. To reach Serfaus, Ladis and Fiss you have to make a short climb. The village Ladis you will soon encounter. Then you drive to Fiss and the last in line is Serfaus. The accessibility is fine. However, it can be busy on changeover days. In heavy snowfall is careful driving is recommended.

It can snow a lot in Austria. Snow chains and winter tyres are therefore often not an unnecessary luxury. Winter tyres are even mandatory in winter conditions. Don't forget to buy a vignette for the motorway. This can be done for example at the ANWB. You can also take the train or plane to Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. By train you travel to Landeck. There you take the bus or taxi to your accommodation. The airport of Innsbruck is about 100 kilometers from the ski area. From the airport it is about an hour and 15 minutes drive to Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis.

12. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis: points of attention

  • Book on time: The Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski area is very popular, especially during holiday periods. So don't wait too long to book. Certainly cheaper accommodations will soon be full.
  • Is the ski pass included? There are travel agencies, such as TUI, where the ski pass is included in the price.
  • Travel insurance: Do you want to be carefree on the slopes? Then arrange a good travel insurance.
  • Don't forget the following items: Ski suit, goggles, sunglasses, gloves, skipully's, thermo underwear, helmet, ski or snowboard socks, skis, ski poles and ski boots or a snowboard and snowboard & sturdy walking shoes or snow shoes.
  • Hire equipment:Skis, poles, ski boots, a snowboard and snowboard boots are available for hire in all villages. The rental price varies, but is around 100 to 150 euros per week per person. For more professional equipment you are a bit more expensive.
