A panorama of water and mountainsLac de Serre-Ponçon is located in the French Alps. This reservoir will be your view as you enjoy your camping holiday at Camping Les Roustou. There is water all around you. Water to swim in, or go surfing, sailing, SUP, diving, you name it! And all this in the middle of the highest mountains of the French Alps, in the Hautes-Alpes department. It has all the ingredients for an ultimate holiday feeling! As well as days of fun in the water, there is wonderful cycling, walking or simply enjoying the impressive countryside in this region.Fun in the water, to enjoy or to watchPick a spot in the shade on the grassy beach of Camping Les Roustou and your day can't get any better. The large lake is in front of you, with white sails everywhere and mountains all round. You can enjoy the water in the lake in many ways. A marked out area in front of the beach is a great place to swim, and there is a separate section if you want to go out on your surf board. If you like water, this is the place for you! But it's just as enjoyable to watch all this water sport from the comfort of your chair.Campsite life at Le RoustouYour day starts when the baker arrives. Immediately there will be a queue in front of his van. This is a great time to have a chat with your neighbours. You walk back to your accommodation with your breakfast under your arm. If you want to do more serious shopping, that's not a problem, as there is a large supermarket less than ten minutes away. If you want to leave the cooking to someone else, you can satisfy your hunger at the café-restaurant with snacks and light meals. You can shed your calories during a game of padel, jeu-de-boules or by swimming a few lengths in the swimming pool.Underwater villagesThe large lake surrounding the campsite is Lac de Serre-Ponçon. This reservoir was constructed in the 1960s. The villages in the valley were submerged, but next to the campsite there is a small island with a chapel on top of it. This chapel is all that remains of the village that once stood here. The rest has disappeared under the water. There have to be some exciting stories about that! The small town of Embrun is very attractive. This village is perched up on the rocks with views over the lake. There are several lovely old buildings here and some excellent street cafes. If you prefer the countryside, there is excellent cycling and walking here. Anyone in search of nature will find it in Park Les Écrins National Park.
